Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, Horacio Di Yorio is a pianist, keyboardist, composer, and arranger with classical and jazz training, alongside extensive experience in popular music. He received his academic training at the Falleri Balzo Conservatory and the University School of Music, in piano and composition. He has worked professionally as a pianist and keyboardist specializing in popular music since the age of 17.
He is currently the pianist and arranger for the UTU Orchestra. He has performed as a guest pianist with the Montevideo´s Symphonyc Band, the Montevideo Philharmonic, and the SODRE National Choir, and has arranged music for the SODRE Youth Symphony Orchestra for various shows in which he has also performed.
He was in charge of the orchestral direction for the 2025 season of "Matilda: The Musical" at the SODRE Auditorium, for which he was nominated for a Florencio Award for "Best Musical Direction." He was also the pianist and director of the chamber ensemble that provided live music for the 2025 staging of Milton Scincha's "Boulevard Sarandí."
His arrangements have also been performed by the Montevideo Philharmonic, the Minas Gerais Symphony Orchestra, and the Montevideo´s Symphonic Band. He was the pianist and keyboardist for the band that accompanied Gloria Gaynor on three consecutive occasions when she visited Uruguay, for a total of six shows. He was also invited to perform in Uruguay by the Brazilian artists Juliano Barreto, Luiz Meira, Fabio Cadore, and Gelson Oliveira.
In 2007, he joined the UTU (Universidad del Trabajo del Uruguay) Orchestra as a pianist after winning the competition for the position, and since 2017 he has also served as its arranger.
In 2002, he joined Rubén Rada's band, also serving as his pianist on the ATC (Argentine Public Television) program "Lo de Rada" in 2007 and the successful sitcom "La Oveja Negra" (The Black Sheep). He was in charge of the musical direction for the shows presenting R. Rada's album "Fan" in Argentina and Uruguay.
He was also the rehearsal pianist and accompanist for the Santa Elena Polyphonic Choir for over ten years, performing works ranging from Ariel Ramírez's "Misa Criolla" to Gluck's "Orfeo à Eurídice," as well as symphonic-choral pieces by Vivaldi, Bach, and Nunes.
In previous years, he was pianist and arranger for Maia Castro, pianist, arranger, and musical director for Mónica Navarro (in her tango project, with whom he achieved a Latin Grammy nomination in the Tango category for the album "Calle"), Sara Sabah, and he was a member of numerous jazz, fusion, and candombe groups such as: Música Negra de la Ciudad de Montevideo, Nicolás Mora Quinteto, Popo Romano's band, Ana Prada, Carmen Pi Cuarteto, and La Calenda Beat. He was also pianist and co-arranger for the prestigious vocal quartet La Otra.
He has served on choral conducting examination boards and juries for competitions for the UTU orchestra and the National Music Prize. He has presented expert reports and acted as a defense attorney, at the request of AGADU (General Association of Authors of Uruguay) and private individuals, in various plagiarism lawsuits.
He has participated in approximately twenty albums and is the artistic producer of twelve of them. She has composed and performed music for advertising, multimedia encyclopedias, plays, and documentaries, including the National Geographic documentaries "Miraculous Souls 2" and "Freemasonry, Secret Rituals; From Within," and the piece "We Are All Women" for UN Women, which won "Best Sound and Music Production" at Desachate 2017, one of Uruguay's most prestigious advertising awards.
With her project, she has performed (in various formations) at the 2023 Uruguay Jazz Festival (SODRE), the Córdoba International Jazz Festival, the Teatro El Galpón, the Zavala Muníz Hall at the Solís Theatre, the Hugo Balzo Hall at SODRE, the Zitarrosa Hall, the Florencio Sánchez Theatre, the Bastión del Carmen Theatre in Colonia, the Jazz al Sur Festival in Punta del Diablo, the Maldonado House of Culture, and the Camacúa Hall, among others. In 2024, he was invited by the Córdoba Jazz Orchestra to perform a concert of his compositions and arrangements at the prestigious Teatro Real in Córdoba. In 2025, he participated with the group "The Charrúas" in the National Jazz Fest in New Zealand, where many of Di Yorio's compositions and his arrangements of other composers' works were performed.
He has released four albums: "La vuelta olímpica," "Alta Definición" (winner of the 2016 Graffiti Award for Best Jazz Album), a live album, "Group/Guests. Live at Sala Hugo Balzo," and his latest album, "Montevideo índigo," released in 2024, which was nominated for the 2025 Graffiti Awards in the "Best Instrumental Album" category.
