Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, Horacio DI Yorio is a pianist, keyboardist, composer and arranger with classical and jazz academic training, as well as an extensive activity in popular music. Academically, he was trained at the Falleri Balzo Conservatory and at the University School of Music, in the degrees of piano and composition. He has worked professionally as a pianist and keyboardist of popular music since he was 17 years old. He is currently a pianist and arranger for the UTU Orchestra and pianist and arranger for Maia Castro. He has participated as a guest pianist with the Montevideo Symphonic Band, the Montevideo Philharmonic, the Sodre National Choir and has made arrangements for the SODRE Youth Orchestra, for various shows in which he also participated as a performer. His arrangements have also been performed by the Montevideo Philharmonic, the Mina Gerais Symphony and the Montevideo Symphonic Band. He was the pianist and keyboardist of the band that accompanied Gloria Gaynor on three consecutive occasions when she visited Uruguay, in a total of six shows. He was also called by the Brazilians Juliano Barreto, Luiz Meira, Fabio Cadore and Gelson Oliveira and for their performances in Uruguay. In 2007 he joined the UTU (Universidad del Trabajo del Uruguay) Orchestra as a pianist after winning the competition for the position and since 2017 he has also been designated as arranger. In 2002, he joined Rubén Rada's band, also being his pianist in the ATC (Argentine public television) program: “Lo de Rada”, in 2007 and the successful sitcom: “La Oveja Negra”. He was in charge of the musical direction of the presentation shows for R.Rada's album “Fan”, in Argentina and Uruguay. He was also a pianist, arranger and accompanist for the Santa Elena Polyphonic Choir for more than ten years, with which he has moved from the “Misa criolla” by Ariel Ramírez, to “Orfeo Y Eurídice” by Gluck, passing through symphonic choral works by Vivaldi, Bach or Nunes. In previous years, he was a pianist, arranger and musical director for: Mónica Navarro (in her tango project, with whom he achieved a Latin Grammy nomination in the Tango category for the album Calle), Sara Sabah, and he was a member of numerous jazz, fusion and candombe groups such as: Música negra de la ciudad de Montevideo, Nicolás Mora Quinteto, the Popo Romano band, Ana Prada, Carmen Pi Cuarteto and La Calenda Beat. He was also a pianist and co-arranger for the prestigious vocal quartet La Otra. He has been a member of examination committees for choral direction and juries for competitions for the UTU orchestra. He has presented reports as an expert and acted as a defender, at the request of Agadu (General Association of Authors of Uruguay) and individuals, in various cases of plagiarism claims. He participated in around twenty albums and is the artistic producer of twelve of them. He has composed and produced music for advertising, multimedia encyclopedias, plays and documentaries, among which the National Geographic documentaries stand out; "Almas milagrosas 2" and "Masonería, Rituales secretas; desde adentro" and the piece "Todos somos mujer" for UN Women, which was awarded "Best Sound and Music Production" at Desachate 2017, one of the most important awards in Uruguayan advertising. With his project he has performed (in different formations) at the Uruguay Jazz Festival 2023, SODRE, the Córdoba International Jazz Festival at the Teatro el Galpón, Sala Zavala Muníz at the Solís Theater, Sala Hugo Balzo at SODRE, Sala Zitarrosa, Teatro Florencio Sánchez, Teatro Bastión del Carmen in Colonia, Festival Jazz al sur de Punta del Diablo, Casa de la cultura in Maldonado, and Sala Camacúa, among others. In 2024 he was invited by the Córdoba Jazz Orchestra to perform a concert based on his compositions and arrangements, at the prestigious Teatro Real in the city of Córdoba. He has four albums released, “La vuelta olímpica”, “Alta Definición”, (winner of the 2016 Graffiti Award for Best Jazz Album), a live album “Group/Guests. Live at Sala Hugo Balzo” and his latest album “Montevideo índigo” released this year.
